A Commentary on Air Pollutants and Suicide
Chia-Ming Chang
In Taiwan, suicide has been the nineth lead-ing cause of death for a consecutive eight years
since 1999, and more than 3,000 people die from
suicide each year [1]. The numbers of suicide rate
in Taiwan were increased from 13.6 per 100,000
in 2002 to 16.2 per 100,000 in 2012. Suicidal be-havior which is never attributable to one single
cause, is the consequence of a complex interaction
of social, psychological, and biological character-istics [2].
